Course Overview: Calls for erratic operators, drunk drivers, suspicious vehicles and similar calls involving motor vehicles are commonplace in every communications center. The information obtained by the 911 call-taker can, and often does, have a significant impact on the handling and outcome of these calls. This course is designed to ensure that the 911 call-taker is knowledgeable and prepared to obtain and dispatch the necessary information to ensure a successful resolution to a wide variety of dangerous driver calls.
This course will cover the following topics:
- Legal requirement to stop vehicles based on “erratic operator” reports
- Operating Under the Influence, including marijuana and other drugs
- Road Rage calls
- Handling Police Pursuits
- The Danger of “routine” traffic stops and the dispatchers role
- Texting and Driving
- Junior Operator rules
- Immediate Threat Complaints (Cognitive and Medical issues)
- And numerous other laws and issues related to motor vehicles/dangerous driving
