Overview: The information obtained during the initial call of a reported crime has enormous impact on the legality of the police action taking on the street. For this reason, it is critical that public safety dispatchers have a solid understanding of criminal procedure so that the correct information is gathered. It is not enough simply to train dispatchers on what to ask, it is critical that they have an understanding of why certain information needs to be obtained as this will help improve overall performance and efficiency.
