Dispatchers play a critical role in law enforcement. They gather the pertinent facts of a call and relay the information to the officer responding, but what happens when dispatchers are summonsed to court to testify about the information they received? Are dispatchers aware of how that information is interpreted during the courtroom process? With more and more dispatchers being summonsed to court for the first complaint rule, OUI statements, and the hearsay exception, it is important for dispatchers to have a thorough understanding of the courtroom process and proper courtroom etiquette.
Courtroom Testimony for 911 Call-Takers is an eight hour course that will assist dispatchers in understanding the following course objectives:
- The importance of proper documentation for calls
- General guidelines of what the prosecutor is looking for to help build a case
- How to prepare reports for success in court
- The importance of establishing a relationship with the court
- Proper courtroom etiquette
