BECOME A BEDFORD POLICE OFFICER!  EXCELLENT PAY AND BENEFITS.

The Bedford Police Department seek to hire new Police Officers

Salary range $84,058 – $101k+ (with educational incentives) plus night differential, holiday pay, and specialty pay (if applicable). Along with an abundant availability of overtime and detail opportunities. Current detail rate is $70 per hour.

The examination will take place on October 4, 2025 @ 8AM. Candidates must pre-register by 8:00 PM on October 1st, examination fee is required.

Immediately after completing the examination, candidates will be required to participate in a physical fitness screening and must be able to achieve the 40th percentile on the “Cooper standards”/the academy entrance requirements.

You should wear clothing appropriate to participate in the physical fitness screening or have clothing available to change after taking the exam.

If you have any questions about the physical fitness screening, contact the Bedford Police Department directly. The physical fitness testing is being conducted by the department and not the written testing agency.

FEE: Non-residents/non-military service fee is $120. Current Bedford residents that have lived in town for more than 1 year, anyone that graduated from Bedford High School, and former military may register for ½ price – $60.00 (proof will be required). 

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and no older than 45 years of age, possess a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.  Candidates with a HS diploma or GED are eligible to apply however; candidates with a degree from an accredited college / university or with a military background are preferred.   

Candidates will be subjected to an extensive background investigation, medical / physical evaluation and psychological screening. The written exam score is only one consideration of the hiring process.  The department will consider the candidates’ overall skills, abilities and qualifications to select the best candidates.
